Barnardo's Phoenix Project: Child Sexual Abuse - Foundation Course

This FREE course is for professionals working with families in the Somerset Council area and is aimed at frontline staff.

The course will be in person held at our Taunton venue with a small group of mixed delegates.

Only book if you are sure you can make it. Non-attendance will be charged at £50 unless we are given notice of 24 hours or there is an unavoidable emergency.

Aims:
• Understand what sexual abuse is and the signs and symptoms
• What do we mean by Trauma?
• Intersectionality in relation to childhood sexual abuse
• The science of the brain in relation to the trauma of sexual abuse
• How to react and deal with sexual abuse disclosures with a trauma responsive approach
• Supporting the recovery journey
• The importance of self-care

The training will be presented at our Taunton venue by two members of our Somerset Phoenix team.

It is important to remember that this training is not a therapeutic space to disclose or share personal information, should you wish to speak to someone we can signpost you to find personal support.

During the training session confidentiality needs to be maintained and no names of children or family members disclosed.

If you are booking on behalf of someone else, please make sure that person is aware topics discussed will be around Child Sexual Abuse. This course maybe too triggering for some individuals and their own life experiences.

Accessibility:
The training room is located upstairs and there is not a lift, please be aware this room is not accessible. Please let us know if you require level access.
