Domestic Abuse Routine Enquiry (DARE)
Before attending this course, please ensure you have completed the Level One Foundation domestic abuse training, this can be found by following the training link Training (somersetsurvivors.org.uk) .
Hampton Trust has been working with domestic abuse perpetrators for over 26 years. As an organisation, we have been advocating for early perpetrator interventions for many years. We are delighted that the commitment made by the Government to tackle domestic abuse is now followed by tangible actions.
We are pleased to be working with Somerset Council to provide Domestic Abuse Routine Enquiry (DARE) toolkit training to frontline professionals across the area. Due to the success of DARE across Hampshire and other sites, Somerset Council has provided funding to deliver DARE training to local professionals.
DARE aims to increase the confidence and competence of frontline professionals in identifying domestic abuse perpetrators and engaging and nudging them into specialist services. As a result, the quality of referrals are increased and drop-out rates are reduced as engaged perpetrators are much more likely to successfully complete interventions and achieve the desired behaviour change.
Why should you become DAREaware?
The DARE Toolkit does not require professionals to deliver in depth specialist work with domestic abuse perpetrators, rather it provides the tools to identify, explore and engage perpetrators so they can be referred on to specialist local services, designed to support behaviour change. DARE encourages a wider community response in which all agencies share the responsibility of shining a spotlight on abusive behaviour. This increases the opportunity to offer people the right intervention at the right time.
DARE was originally funded by the Home Office in 2021 and was successfully piloted in Hampshire with more than 400 professionals across various frontline services receiving the training. In an independent evaluation by the University of Southampton, 81% of participants reported having gained increased confidence in starting conversations with perpetrators. Full details about the training, the evaluation, the DARE webinar, and the toolkit are available at www.daretoolkit.org.uk.
